GeekChic CON-versation – Live at TsunamiCon 2014!

The ladies of Geek Chic sat down on Saturday,  November 8th, at around 12:30 PM at this year’s TsunamiCon for a live discussion about geek girls and their experiences at cons.  The hosts shared a few of their own best and worst con experiences, and members of the audience also stepped up to the mic to be part of the show.

What to Watch: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Have you been paying attention to the Marvel Movies? If so, this show is for you! Featuring Agent Coulson from Iron Man 2, Thor, and Avengers.

As a viewer of this show I can say it started a bit slow and the characterization was a bit weak, however as the show progresses, the writers get it figured out and the show begins to get quite good. It is also worth the watch because its the first show in the history of TV as we know it, that has a continues timeline and story arc from movie to TV show. The events in Captain America: Winter Soldier effect the show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

There is quite a lot of hubbub about how good the show had gotten since the events of Winter Soldier. If you don’t watch this show, now is the time to marathon your way to awesomeness!

Kickstarter Pick of the Week: Princess Charming

Josh Roby, a professional author for 12 years, thinks it’s time for an update to the Princess fairy tales that every girl knows. In his Princess Charming Series, he hopes to turn our Damsel in Distress and Prince Charming formula on its head. It’s high time for a Princess Charming.

What happens when the Charming family has a daughter? Raising boys they know about, but a girl? And what to do when she doesn’t fit the Damsel in Distress mold?

Josh says of the series, “What we want to do with Princess Charming is one step beyond that (The Paper Bag Princess), creating iconic and memorable characters that kids will identify with because they grow up with them.” There are to be three age groups for the books, Picture, Bedtime, Early Reader.

I know its not Monday, but with only four days left, I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to back this fabulous idea.

GeekChic Episode 6 – Geeks and their Apps

We’re not sure what it is, but Geeks like their apps. Our hosts offer up some of their favorite apps and why they like them so you too can use awesome apps.

We all are Android users so these are all android compatible apps, sorry, iPhone folks. As Liz says, we Po’. We can’t afford them iPhones. But as every Android user knows, for every Android app there are 10 Apple apps that probably do it better.

If you have any Apps you think we should talk about, let us know! We love Apps!

GeekChic Ep 05 – Supporting Little Geeks

Between holidays, sickness, weather and a serious case of the blahs, it’s been awhile. But there is hope. Here is Episode 05 where our hosts tackle how to handle little geeks who are struggling to handle what is and isn’t socially acceptable to their peers.

We hope you enjoy our thoughts on the process of supporting them without smothering them in their sleep.

GeekChic Ep04 – 2014 Trends In Gaming

Welcome to your Fourth episode of Geek Chic, a pod cast for girls, geeks and everything in between. In this episode, Liz, Lin and I discuss what trends have been forecasted in the gaming world, both RPG & Video, and where we see these trends headed.

It should be noted that these are opinions not fact, even if we tend to present them that way.

As a final P.S. Thanks to everyone who has waited so patiently for this episode to come out. Hopefully the weather and immune systems will be with us and it won’t take over a month to get an episode out again. – Jonikka~

What to Watch: February Movies

For this week’s pick of what to watch, I sorted through the movies that are premiering in February, and picked the ones that might appeal to a geeky girl and possibly her guy.

The Lego Movie opening February 7th.

This movie is the greatest superhero movie of February 2014 with guest appearances from Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, a Ninja Turtle and mostly importantly – Morgan Freeman. (Tittie sprinkles) Looks to be a epic tale of heroism and ineptitude in an extraordinary interlocking landscape.

Robocop opening February 12th.

A remake of the classic action Sci-fi movie from 1987 starring Peter Weller. A man, burned and dismembered from an explosion is given a new body and a computer to rule his mind and consciousness. However, the new Robocop has other ideas about his fate and his priorities.

Vampire Academy opening February 14th.

If chic flicks make you slightly nauseated (like me) then this might be the Valentine’s day movie to have your beau take you to. It’s about vampires in high school. (Yeah, I wasn’t sure about the idea either) But there is no sparkling and the main character played by Zoey Deutch looks fun and quite quirky. Could be better than something that requires tissues and a makeup bag in your purse to survive.

Winter’s Tale opening February 14th.

Another Valentines Day pick. This one is about a love so great, so pure and so beautiful that it defies death. Reincarnated the man returns to finish what he started, to save his love. I definitely feel you should pack tissues and the makeup bag for this one. If romance is the movie selection you prefer, I recommend this supernatural romance starring Colin Farrell.

I’m going to Robocop for my Valentine’s romance pick. (What? I find things blowing up very romantic)

Kickstarter Pick of the Week: Hero Forge: 3D Printed Minis

This weeks Kickstarter pick of the week is Hero Forge: 3D printed minis brought to us by, yes that’s right, Hero Forge.

As many gamers will tell you there are hundreds and hundreds of minis and not ONE that looks like their character. Sometimes if their lucky they’ll be able to find that that ‘more or less’ matches. Meaning, right gender, right race but wrong weapons, armor and hair or some arrangement of these. Hero Forge is bringing us the solution!

Customizable, print on demand 3D printed minis. No longer will you have to accept that mini that doesn’t really fit your character. Now, using Hero Forge’s sophisticated parts system and web UI you will be able to not only pick gender, race and weapons, but also facial expression, hairstyles, and equipment.

As you can see, these minis got game! With their customization along with their character builder that allows you to save your mini and make changes to it as you character progresses and the amazing level of detail that printing can provide over mass market injection molds, these minis are a high tech leaf in an otherwise analog world. And we have the ability to get in on the ground floor.

This Kickstarter has already funded and reached 6 of their 8 stretch goals. With 14 days left you have nothing to lose but the most awesome customized by you mini out there.

Just a little longer…

Life has exploded. Liz and I had to cancel the recording of the podcast this Sunday due to illness. Now our guest can’t make it. I just started work and I REALLY miss my afternoon nap. (Hey its naptime somewhere) Liz is still sick. And my husband has the stink eye on at the thought of me missing tonight’s game.

With this in mind, Liz and I have decided to put off this weeks recording until this next Sunday. It gives me time to reschedule with my guest or get a new one, I will have plenty of time for editing and napping AND hopefully (fingers crossed) Liz will finally get her household unsickified.

This Sunday however, guest or no guest, throwing up or not, we will be recording Episode 4 of Geek Chic.

Thanks for your patience!
